Preparing for Mason Dixon
March 26th, 2007:
I'm starting to feel the stress of everything that needs to get done for Mason Dixion. My entry forms will be sent in late next week and I'm still unsure if I should get one or two stalls. I am calling a mattress place today to order a funton mattress for the bed of my horse trailer and that should arrive in two weeks.
My new show outfit is slowly coming together. I still need to get pants and a hat plus I need to talor the new jackets to ensure they fit me perfectly.
The horse area of my trailer is cleaned and has new bedding down already. Bedding, chairs, table, and saddle rack have been loaded into the stud divider stall.
Things that need to be done:
-Put hay in nets and load in trailer -Done
-Load all buckets (muck and feed/water)- Done
-Clean and load tack (UGH I hate this one)- Done
-Load all clothes- In progress
- Clean carpets in LQ- Done
-Order and put mattress in LQ- Done
-Sheets and sleeping bags for LQ- Done
- Bath supplies for LQ- Done
March 31st:
So I went to Wal-Mart with Derek yesterday and forgot like half the stuff I needed to get. Things still on my list to buy:
-Muck Bucket
-Indoor/ outdoor Carpet
I'm sure there is more.
In a trip to the local tack shop on Saturday I purchased some silver spray that is awesome! I was able to get my bridle, bit, reins and breastplate cleaned so all that's left is the saddle.
Still waiting on word from the lady who made my new show jacket to see if she will take it in for me.
Thursday April 17th:
A week from today I will be at Mason Dixon...YIKES!
I still don't feel like I've gotten a ton of stuff done for the show. I loaded some of my everyday clothes and what I have of my show clothes. The biggest problem now is that I'm waiting on more things to arrive:
Show pants- Got
Brown Hat- Got
White Hat- No :-(
Crystals - Got
So the problem now is that I can't pack everything untill this stuff arrives. I was able to take in my new jacket on my own but now I need to find a necklace of some sorts to wear with it....such a pain.
I've packed my grain and new horse trailer sheets in the LQ.
I still feel like I have a ton of crap to do :-/
Monday, April 21st
So I got my crystals and show pants in the mail yesterday....well I think they arrived on Sat. but I was gone all weekend so I got them last night. I finished up my new teal jacket and I have to hem my pants when I get home tonight. Then everything needs to be loaded in the trailer.
My new hobby horse hat came in and its a bit snug. I don't have time to exchange it so its going to have to do for now.
Tonight I have to pack all my normal clothes, the rest of the show clothes, and get on Derek about making him pack. I also have to get pillows and sleeping bags packed. Its been pouring rain all day so it doesn't look like I will get to ride tonight.
Thursday, May 15th
Southern States is still "iffy" . I've only ridden Headlight ONCE since Mason Dixon because I didn't want to hurt him if his leg issue was something other then his hocks. Now that he's been injected I'm not allowed to ride him untill Sat. which leaves 3 days to get him ready for our second biggest show of the year...lovely, just lovely.
So after the vet left I went ahead and started packing like a mad woman (I didn't want to pack just to be told I couldn't go to the show) I was able to get grain, hay, shavings and other small things packed in that day. I'm actually proud of myself for discovering that I could pack THREE bags of shavings and two fans in my rear tack. That freed up enough room to pack the scooters and cooler in my stud divider stall.....its amazing how little things like that can make you day :-P
They are calling for rain EVERYDAY while in NC for the show....could this get any worse?
Sunday, May 18th
No Southern States for Headlight and I :-( He's still as lame as lame gets...crappy, just crappy.
Tuesday, June 3rd
My horse still isn't 100%.....you'd think I would give up on planning shows so that the let down of not attending them isn't so great....but I love to torture myself :-(
Anyway IF I can get my horse sound for Mid-A then I plan on attending Penn Ohio to make up for missing Southern States. The great part is that the show falls on a Fri, Sat, Sun and I'm already off that Friday because of Independence Day....so I'd get to attend a show and only take off ONE day of work. Another great thing about that show is they offer an AMT. package which includes 2 stalls, 2 classes, 1 in hand class ALL for $75....holy cow you can't beat that! The only downside I can find is that the show is 6 hours away.
There are still some things that I need to get done for the shows:
Make Derek put on my new window holders & Brush trays
Buy a new mini frig
Friday, June 13th
So I think my horse will be ready for Mid-A!!!!!!! The good thing is that a lot of my stuff is already packed from Southern states so this shouldn't be too big of a deal to get ready for except that I am trainering a friends horse and she will need room to pack stuff......so now I've got to clear some space for her stuff.
I'm thinking I will take my hay out of the stud divider and put it in trashbags and in the back of the truck for the haul down. That will give Brenda some room to put her buckets and such.
Derek still hasn't put my brush trays up or my new window holders....better get on him about that.
Monday, June 16th
I did manage to get my hay in the trash bags this weekend and make more room in the stud divider for Brenda's stuff. My bridle has about two more days of cleaning left to do and then it can be packed.
Sunday I washed and rolled my standing wraps and polos so that's done. I told Derek last night to start getting his stuff together since I'm going to be helping make sure Brenda has everything she needs.
Tonight I'm going to do laundry and hopefully get that out of the way for the show.
Tuesday, June 17th
I emailed the show secretary today and reserved my stall for Mid-A. She said I should be able to get my stall with Broadmoor..YAY
I've made a list of things that I still need to get for the show:
Gel
Box fan (yet another one)
Saran wrap
I'll try to pick that stuff up tomorrow. I'm going to call Brenda tomorrow and see if she wants to bring some of her stuff over one night this week and get it packed so that next Tuesday we have less things to do.
I've gotten about 99% of my laundry done tonight for the show and plan to have all my casual clothes ready to be packed tomorrow.
Monday, June 23rd
Mid-A is gearing up to be the wettest show ever :-( They are calling for storms every day we are there...bummer.
Well the person whose horse I was trailering told me on Friday that they decided to take the horse down themselves so that meant I spent Sat. & Sunday rearranging the horse trailer back to the way I had it before....what a waste of time!
I got all my work tack packed yesterday and just have a few more items left to put in the trailer. I tricked Derek into taking the truck to fill it up last night so that's done and out of the way.
Here is tonight's list (what I can think of right now at least)
___-Fill cats atuo-waterer & Feeder
___-Pack blow dryer, straight iron, and curling iron
___-Pack clippers (they are charging right now)
___-Pack the rest of my everyday clothes
___-Get Headlight's shipping items out (fly mask, Fleece halter, leg wraps)
We are so not ready but I'm just happy to get back in the ring!
Tuesday, June 24th
Today we leave for the show! The plan is to leave work at 11:30 and to pull out of the farm by 1:00 which should put us at the show around 4:30. If I can keep Derek moving and in check then we might obtain this goal. He loves to drag his feet and get me upset before we leave for a show.
Brenda called and said she was on her way to the show already...ugh I wish I could already be on the road.
Last night I did another quickblack bath on Headlight and then did a hot oil treatment. I'm kinda worried because I just read on the internet to do the hot oil at least 4 days before the show or the horse will be slick and attract dirt. Hopefully the downpours of rain we got last night helped rinse most of it off.
The weather is suppose to be horrible for the show...90+ degree days with rain....my hair is going to be wild the whole time :-( I also glanced at the show schedule and I hate it. I show every night. I much rather show in the morning so that I can relax and kick back at night...so much for that.
